Have you ever dreamed of attending the Toastmasters convention, but never thought you’d be able to do it? Now is your chance! The 2020 Toastmasters International Convention will be totally online and totally free. That’s right, FREE!
There will be a variety of events happening from August 24-29. Each day will feature a mixture of educational sessions, keynote speeches, and special events. Those events include things like the Accredited Speaker Program, the Golden Gavel presentation, and candidate showcases. The biggest special event of the convention is the World Championship of Public Speaking, and this year it will feature D32 member Lindy MacLaine in the Region 1 semifinal round. Lindy will be competing on Tuesday, August 25th at 3:00 am WA/2:00 am AK time. And we don’t miss out on all the social fun of convention by going virtual. The famous nightly sing-a-long, the traditional Region 1 gathering, and a D32 happy hour will all continue in an online mode. Click here to see a more detailed schedule.
The annual business meeting will take place on Friday, August 28th at 5:00 am WA/4:00 am AK time. Each club President and Secretary has a vote to be cast at that business meeting. Those officers may register and attend the meeting in person, or they may delegate another club member or the District Director to cast their vote by assigning their proxies. The form to complete the proxy assignment is located on Toastmasters.org under the Leadership Central>Club Central menu. That needs to be completed by August 18th. We are planning to hold a caucus meeting to discuss the candidates and proposals that will be voted on.
If you carry a proxy, what do you need to know? The following votes will be cast by your Club President and Secretary:
- International candidates are running for office. Check out the information for the International Officers and the International Director Candidates for Regions 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14
- The board has submitted two proposals for consideration.
Your officers may assign the proxy to themselves, a club member, an active Toastmaster, or District Director. We encourage the clubs to discuss the issues above with the members. Take this opportunity to involve your club members in Toastmasters beyond the club! If the time for the general business meeting does not work for your schedule, make sure to assign the proxies by August 18th. Have the voice of your club heard at Toastmasters International!
This is a great opportunity to see the wider world of Toastmasters International. Travel internationally without leaving your house and do it for free.
Stay tuned for more activities associated with the convention!
