Many members initially join Toastmasters as a way to get over their fear of public speaking (or sometimes because their supervisor said to). But your membership in Toastmasters offers a wide breadth of professional skill building opportunities. One of those is service in a District leadership position.
Think about your last employee performance review – what competencies was your supervisor looking for? What skills would help you move forward in your current position or help you get a better position? If you’re contemplating a career change, what experience would you need to make that a reality? Serving as a District leader, at any level, could help fulfill those needs. Here is a listing of leadership positions that could help you build those needed skills:

District leadership may sound like a scary proposition, but it is one that will provide you with a safe and supportive environment to stretch. District leaders are surrounded by a team of other Toastmasters to help with the role and are offered on-going training opportunities from the District and Toastmasters International.
