Debbie baker
District Director Candidate
Debbie Baker is a member of the Sound Advice and Money Talks Toastmasters clubs. During her 9 years as a Toastmaster, she has served in every club officer role and as an Assistant Area Director, Area Director, Assistant Division Director, Division Director, Assistant Club Growth Director, Club Growth Director, and Program Quality Director. She has also received the Division Director of the Year award. Debbie has also chaired a Professional Development Committee and a Conference Committee. She would like to serve as District Director because she, “wants to stretch” and help others stretch to make a difference in District 32.

Program Quality Director Candidate
Melissa Jean is a member of the Centerpoint and Advancing Alaska Toastmasters clubs, During her 9 years as a Toastmaster, she has served club Treasurer, VP Education, President, Area Director, Division Director, and Club Growth Director. She has also received the Division Director of the Year award. Melissa has a BS in Computer Information Systems and Business Administration and an MS in Human Resources and Information Technology. She would like to serve as Program Quality Director because she is, “able to communicate challenging topics in an easy to understand manner, improving the audience’s perception and acceptance of the information being shared.”

Club Growth Director Candidate
Amie Haakenson is a member of the Alyeska Toastmasters club. During her 16 years as a Toastmaster, she has served as club President, VP Education, VP Membership, VP Public Relations, Secretary, Area Director, and Division Director. Amie has vast experience in wedding/event planning, community education, non-profit grants management, and human resources. She would like to serve as Club Growth Director because she believes, “you serve the organizations that serve you. As a Toastmasters ‘lifer,’ I knew that I would take the time to serve in this capacity and give back to our organization.”

Troy Stevens
Division A Director Candidate
Troy Stevens is a member of the Public Utilities and Tahoma Talkers Toastmasters clubs. During his 6 years as a Toastmaster, he has served as a Club President, Area Director, and Division Director. He has also received the Rising Star, Shining Star, Club President of the Year, and Area Director of the Year awards. Troy has a BA in History and a Masters in Management and Leadership. He would like to serve as a Division Director to, “To give back to an organization and its members that have given me so much.”

Division B Director Candidate
Marutesh Shivappa is a member of the SKWIM Toastmasters club. During his 2 years as a Toastmaster, he has served as an Area Director.Marutesh is a speaking coach and professor. He would like to serve as a Division Director in order to, “improve his leadership skills.”

Michael Miller
Division C Director Candidate
Michael Miller is a member of the Stately Speakers and Capitol Club Toastmasters clubs. During his 9 years as a Toastmaster, he has served as a Club President, Area Director, and Division Director. He has also received the Area Director of the Year award. Michael has a BA in Business, an Associates in Accounting, and an MBA. He would like to serve as a Division Director because, “I love serving in different Toastmasters positions and working with individuals wanting to improve their public speaking/leadership skills.”

Division E Director Candidate
Joyce Vick is a member of the Sweet’s Pride of Fairbanks, Taku Toastmasters, Valley Toastmasters, Latitude 61, Advancing Alaska, and Nerdmasters Toastmasters clubs. During her 16 years as a Toastmaster, she has served in every club officer role and as an Area Director, Division Director, Finance Manager, and the Yukon-Alaska Council of Toastmasters Club Growth Director. She has also received the Area Director of the Year and Toastmaster of the Year awards. Joyce has a BA in business with an emphasis in accounting. She would like to serve as a Division Director, “to give back to Toastmasters because of everything Toastmasters has given to me.”

Karen Robinette is a member of the Palmer and Advancing Alaska Toastmasters clubs. During her 22 years as a Toastmaster, she has served in every club officer role and as an Area Director. Karen has a BA in Biology and an MA in Teaching. She would like to serve as Division Director to help the District to “continue to benefit its members.”
