Proxy 2018: Get our Club’s Voice Heard…Who, Why, When and How?

by | Aug 7, 2018

Once a year we have a chance to make sure our club’s voice is heard at the Toastmasters International level. Here is the who, why, when and how to make our club’s voice heard.

Why?
Every year at the Toastmasters International Convention, we hold the Annual Business Meeting, at which important decisions are made. These decisions include:

  • The election of our International Officers and International Board Members.
  • Voting yea or nay on proposals to alter TI’s Bylaws.

Who?
Club Presidents and Club Secretaries have the right to vote. The Club President or Club Secretary must assign who will carry our club’s two votes in Chicago. Here are our options:

  1. We can carry our proxy (our right to vote) ourselves, if we are attending the Annual Business Meeting in Chicago.
  2. We can specify either our District Director or another Toastmaster in good standing to carry your proxy for us.

When?
The 87th Annual Toastmasters International Convention in Chicago is only a few days away. We should assign our proxies now. If our voice is going to be heard, we need to assign them no later than Saturday, August 18th.

How?
If you are planning to attend the Annual Business Meeting, you just need to show up at the Credentials Desk a day or two before the Meeting and receive instructions on how to vote.

If you wish to specify someone else to carry your proxy, you can easily do this online in Club Central. To see how, view this short video about Assigning our Toastmasters Club Proxy.
